  • ESword is probably the best free bible study software that you can pick up. ESword is easy to use and has a fair amount of features. However it is only for PCs, so if you own a mac you will have to use the alternative MacSword.
  • 5 Best Mac Bible Study Programs Video 2015-03-26 13 By Kevin For a long time doing Bible study on a Mac meant getting Accordance Bible Software, a couple of lesser known programs without a lot of support for current Bible translations and resources, or installing something like Parallels software to run Windows Bible study software on a Mac.

Esword converter in mac - posted in e-Sword 8.x: Hii all, when i had a pc i used the converter to migrate from pc to mac. Now i only have a mac. Does anyone know of a converter of pc esword modules to os modules but which runs on mac?

Article Deletion History

Note: This article is being slowly rewritten to meet the required criteria. AfD Vandals should fix this article, instead of acting out their usual mode of ignorance. 67.136.147.116 07:06, 31 March 2007 (UTC)

Esword For Mac

Reasons for prior deletions

The 2004 request for deletion had one issue --- that it was an add.

The 2006 request for deletion had the following issues:

  • Fails WP:SOFTWARE;
  • Fails WP:V;
  • Fails WP:RS;
  • No sources cited;
  • Is an advertisement;

67.136.147.116 05:49, 31 March 2007 (UTC)

The 2007 request for creation was declined as it failed WP:WEB.

After satisfying all of the above requirements, the article has to satisfy WP:ATT.

Need to include the following in the article

List of Reviews in:

WP:Notability (Software Guidelines)

  • Newspaper articles. It has been reviewed in some seminary newspapers.
  • Books: The e-Sword license pretty much prohibits any books about this software from being commercially published. Non-commercial publication is acceptable.
  • User Guides: Official user guide is available from the home website. Unofficial user guides are available in English and Spanish, using the Internet. These are all distributed under a free (gratis) license. Documentation in some Indonesian and Philippine languages is not available on the Internet,but uses other distribution channels.
  • TV Documentaries: None known.
  • Magazine reviews.Listed in article
  • Notable Software Vendor: I'll let somebody else decide whether or not Equipping Ministries and/or Rick Meyer is notable.
  • Included with a distribution: a) e-sword runs on Windows, so that is one barrier to being included; b) the e-Sword license prohibits commercial distribution, so that is a second barrier to included in a distribution; c) It was distributed as part of Ubuntu Christian Edition, until the distro creators were told that doing so was a license violation. It was considered for inclusion in ChurchPuppy, until they were advised of the license issue.
  • Numbers: More downloads than commercial Bible Study programs have sold.jonathon (talk) 20:38, 23 June 2008 (UTC)

Distribution

The home page of Ubuntu Christian Edition clearly states that scripts for installing e-Sword are included.

FWIW, their home page lists three Bible Study Programs: Winzip for mac free.

  • GnomeSword Bible Study;
  • The WORD;
  • e-Sword;

This (Ubuntu Christian Edition) was the first operating system distribution to include e-Sword as an installable package. The e-Sword binary was replaced with scripts to download, and install e-Sword, due to licensing issues. In specific, the license for e-Sword prohibits distribution of the executable file on the Internet from any source other than e-Sword.net.

The issues related to The Sword Project are discussed in that section of this article.jonathon 23:00, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

e-sword-users.org

I deleted the statement that ' As of January 2009 they have over 1000 unique e-Sword resources archived, with more being added weekly.' How many resources are listed there depends upon how one counts. (FWIW, http://e-sword-users.org/users/indexpage/resource claims 1301 as 20090205 03:03 UT.) That list includes resources that have been uploaded two, or more times. It also includes resources that were pulled for copyright, licensing, or other reasons. In theory, it doesn't include resources that are listed as 'Non-Licensed or Non-Distributable'. Thus far, the site admins have not published any statistical data about the resources.jonathon (talk) 03:22, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

The link is not valid. the acual link is http://www.e-sword.net/downloads.html. Arlen22 (talk) 20:53, 16 August 2009 (UTC)

Excessive amount of detail

This article really needs to be cut down - there is too much detail about how the software works, its features etc, and that doesn't belong in an encyclopedia. I see that this was already agreed in the deletion discussion in June, but it looks like nobody got around to it yet.. --Bonadea (talk) 07:18, 20 October 2008 (UTC)

Just my opinion, but I find the material useful in evaluating the program. As more people edit the article, it will give a fair estimation of the value of the software.Ricgal (talk) 06:12, 27 November 2008 (UTC)

Platforms

I just deleted a link to React OS in the 'platform' section of the info box.I won't dispute that, in theory, e-Sword runs on that platform. Rick doesn't write e-Sword for that platform. None of the documentation for e-Sword has either a screenshot, or instructions for installing/running it on ReAct OS, or even a mention that it has been run on ReAct OS.

There are both screenshots, and documentation on how to install and use e-Sword for both Linux and Mac OS X. I _think_ that screenshots showing e-Sword being used on both OpenSolaris and BSD exist.

Should a new sub-section pointing to screenshots of e-Sword on these alternate platforms be added to the article? Adding the data to the infobox is, at best, misleading.jonathon (talk) 18:43, 22 October 2009 (UTC)

Hello. I have experimented with E-Sword on ReactOS and in fact have it installed on two machines. After you reverted, I did some checking, but didn't find much online. The only thing that I located was that at least one of the contributors on the Yahoo group uploaded their attempt at the same.
However, you make a good point. It was written for the Windows family of OSes originally. Also, ReactOS is, at least at the moment, perhaps a bit too esoteric and functionality of Windows apps (E-Sword or otherwise) is a bit flaky. Perhaps if it is deemed noteworthy, we can have a brief note about other operating systems' level of support. The infobox, indeed, may not be the place to put it. The Ubuntu CE version seems at least somewhat noteworthy as E-Sword comes pre-packaged with said distro.
P.S. E-Sword on OpenSolaris, eh? I'd like to see that. :) Surv1v4l1st(Talk Contribs) 01:46, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
Ubuntu Christian Edition includes an installer for e-Sword. It does not include e-Sword per se. It also includes installers for The Word, Theophilos, ISA, KoineWorks, Easy Sunday School Planner, Virtual Rosary, BibleMapper. On the Linux side, it includes Xiphos, Bible Trivia, and LinBread. Older versions included gVerse.jonathon (talk) 08:49, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
IIRC, the scripts for installing e-Sword on Ubuntu Christian Edition also worked for OpenSolaris. The recommended practice with OpenSolaris is to run Windows as a virtual OS. jonathon (talk) 08:49, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
I just added a section platforms, with links to either support, or scripts for downloading/installing e-Sword on the alternate platforms can be found.jonathon (talk) 09:12, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
The addition looks good as it covers the necessary platforms. I made a few minor technical and formatting tweeks. I don't see it on Rick's site yet, but do you know of any official support for Windows 7? The latest version of E-Sword indeed runs on 7, but we might need something official as a source before adding it to the infobox. Surv1v4l1st(Talk Contribs) 13:37, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
EDIT: Looks like Win7 is officially supported now. Thanks for adding the OS. Surv1v4l1st(Talk Contribs) 16:13, 29 October 2009 (UTC)

Utility Programs

Three issues:

  • Should utility programs for e-Sword be discussed in this article?
  • If so, what criteria should be used to determine which utilities are discussed
  • Should links to utility programs that are not discussed in this article, be included;jonathon (talk) 23:07, 16 November 2009 (UTC)
I would like to see some of the major tools covered, at least briefly. What the breakpoint would be between 'major' and 'minor,' I can't really say. However, there are a few commonly used tools to generate and maintain content that I think warrants some mention. These tools have contributed to the popularity of the application. Did you have any specific tools in mind? Surv1v4l1st(Talk Contribs) 00:30, 21 November 2009 (UTC)
Something more objective than 'I think this is a major tool' is needed to define 'major tool'. Ben's e-Sword Tool probably qualifies as major. (It is the only tool that can create resources for e-Sword 8.x, 9.x, and Pocket e-sword.) Where do Bible Study 2009, e-Sword Resourcer, e-Sword User Module Conversion Utility v9.5.0, e-Sword 9 Converter v1.0.3, e-Sword Smart Starter, e-Sword Hotkeys, e-Sword macros, e-Sword Tooltip tool, and a couple of others, whose names I have forgotten, fall? (Those are are all for e-sword 9.x. There are at least four dozen more utilities if e-Sword 7.x and 8.x are tossed into the mix.). This article should neither be a link farm to every utility that isn't distributed from e-sword.net or e-sword-users.org, nor should it exclude utilities simply because of where they are distributed from. jonathon (talk) 04:40, 21 November 2009 (UTC)
I would like to see at least Ben's e-Sword Tool be mentioned and linked. The ability to add new texts and modules to e-Sword was and is one of the reasons why it is such a popular tool. Many Bible software packages do not have this ability. With the exception of the Converter tool, I'm not real familiar with the rest and therefore can't comment. Surv1v4l1st(Talk Contribs) 16:28, 21 November 2009 (UTC)
http://sword-and-scabbard.blogspot.com/2009/06/e-sword-resource-authoring-system.html is an outline of tools for creating e-Sword resources. This article should avoid both the arbitrariness of that blog and of e-Sword-users.org, which omits providing tools, because they are deemed to be 'obsolete'.jonathon (talk) 20:49, 21 November 2009 (UTC)
http://sword-and-scabbard.blogspot.com/2009/07/e-sword-resource-creation-tools.html is a slightly different outline of e-Sword utility programs. (The presentation markup, or more precisely, lack of it, makes it somewhat confusing to read.)jonathon (talk) 16:39, 22 November 2009 (UTC)

Pocket e-Sword Resources

How should Pocket e-Sword resources be covered in this article, since they will remain available for the foreseeable future, even though both development and support of Pocket e-Sword will cease? jonathon (talk) 00:12, 14 December 2009 (UTC)

Pocket E-Sword for Andriod?

Anyone have info to add about possible port to Google's phone OS? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 15.219.153.81 (talk) 19:09, 18 June 2010 (UTC)

Rick has a policy of not announcing anything, until after it has been releaed. As such, discussion about a port to any platform is sheer speculation. jonathon (talk) 13:28, 21 June 2010 (UTC)

Mac e-Sword

I removed the following paragraph about e-Sword on Mac OS X:«Mac e-Sword (http://www.whatisrazar.com/macesword/) is a package that includes both DarWine, and e-Sword, for installation on Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger), or higher.» because the site appears to be permanently down.

Furthermore, there is ongoing development with CrossOver, to improve performance and functionality on Linux and Mac OS X systems.p (talk) 16:45, 27 April 2011 (UTC)

Criticism of Rick Meyers

The current attempts by User:VisionaryGuy and others to add criticism regarding Rick Meyers to this page needs to stop. This page describes the e-Sword Bible study programme. The beliefs of its author(s) and supporters does not belong here. Christopher Rath (talk) 21:18, 2 January 2014 (UTC)

User:VisionaryGuy, e-Sword is simply a computer application that presents material. Yes, Rick Meyers bundles material with the application; but, he is not the author of that material. While Mr. Meyers has personal views about things, this is not germane to the application he has written, and so your commentary on his personal beliefs does not belong on this page. Christopher Rath (talk) 14:19, 3 January 2014 (UTC)

His beliefs (Rick Meyers') is his commentary. His commentary is a large part of e-Sword. If his commentary said that Jesus Christ was Satan, I think someone would be obliged to notate that this 'software' has a page where Rick claims to be for Christ then says on page such and such that Christ is Satan. An absurd example, but trying to get you to understand. Is that clear enough for you?

Now I will do so in a encyclopedia format using sources like you say and not make an original writing my self with scripture but rather quote experts to debunk his incorrect teaching. That good with you?

Now, along those lines. Most book's content is not online. If I quote something from a book, lets say from a library, do I need to mention the page number or just the author and title etc.

Also, Rick Meyers is obviously who wrote that e-sword 'gives power and depth to research.' If that is allowed to be stated (It's marketing) then someone who says that is not the case can say it does not. You can't have it both ways. Rick Meyers is allowed to promote that his theme verse is Matthew 10:8 'Freely you receive. Freely give', That is also marketing and a claim that could be challenged, though I am not. Just making a point. Again, you can't have it both ways.

Lastly, if anyone was to read what I wrote here https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=E-Sword&oldid=588870186 I would like to clarify that when I said that chosen must include our part of salvation by Grace, if what I wrote is not clear (I would change it to be clear but that would revert it back to being posted), I am saying that our part is repenting and believing and salvation is a 100% gift as everyone agrees on, as do I. Our part is like showing up (by repenting and believing) to get our present. It is just not clear in that one line I wrote, so I wanted to clarify that.— Preceding unsigned comment added by VisionaryGuy (talk • contribs) 19:24, 3 January 2014 (UTC)

This is an article about a software program - not about the author of the program or any particular theology. In fact, the program appears to be only a framework for displaying Bible versions, published commentaries (some of them hundreds of years old) and taking notes. See review describing available works: [1] There do not appear to be any personal writings of the software creator involved at all. Rmhermen (talk) 21:58, 3 January 2014 (UTC)
Like the account Eyesonchrist (talk·contribs) which was making similar allegations before your account was registered, you are abusing a factual article to debate religious doctrine. At least you have not repeated the way that account made POV links stating that doctrines other than your beliefs are 'incorrect', but even so, as already advised on your talk page, this is neither the place nor the way to raise your concerns. – FayenaticLondon 22:53, 3 January 2014 (UTC)

Yes, but he's just changed his site to promote his view of predestination in a more subtle way: http://rickmeyerseswordbelievesinpredestination.wordpress.com/ (I was referring to his old screenshots, I see now, and suppose, those were his own notes he was showing people). But does the public not have right to know what he is promoting, and what the beliefs are to whom they contribute (he, who is all in it to 'feely give?'). — Preceding unsigned comment added by VisionaryGuy (talk • contribs) 22:47, 4 January 2014 (UTC)

That isn't really germane to this article. And isn't really uncommon or very noteworthy anyway. Many churches hold that belief. Rmhermen (talk) 02:36, 5 January 2014 (UTC)
VisionaryGuy, you don't seem to understand how e-Sword works. The content presented by the programme is not authored by Mr. Meyers. Your article talks about a comment mentioned in the tooltips, and that information is simply content that has been packaged into e-Sword. E-Sword presents material from many authors, Bible translations, and commentaries. So, Mr. Meyers' personal beliefs are not germane to this Wikipedia article. You should really find a different place to expound upon your feelings about Mr. Meyers' beliefs. Christopher Rath (talk) 03:46, 5 January 2014 (UTC)

There is no way that Rick Meyers did not highlight predestined and Ephesians 1:5 to make a statement. The same statement that he made last time with his old notes he showed everyone trying to teach what chosen meant, incorrectly, that fits 'just' mentioning Ephesians 1:5 (since that verse alone would lead anyone to believe we are predestined to be saved). It's his freaking company and he is the one who makes/picks the screenshots. He could have chosen 1,000 topics to highlight but he chose that, again. Have to ask yourself, why? I'll drop the topic now. Nothing left to say besides that. Thanks for your patience. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.134.231.199 (talk) 06:09, 5 January 2014 (UTC)

I have removed from this page a fresh allegation against Rick Meyers by VisionaryGuy (talk·contribs) left at 19:14, 8 June 2014. For info, that user has subsequently changed his account back to Eyesonchrist (talk·contribs). – FayenaticLondon 10:39, 9 June 2014 (UTC)

Users

In looking at the section Locating Resources, I am sorely tempted to delete it, in its entirety. In looking at the entire section Users, I think that it can all be relegated to a sub-section under Resources, more specifically 4.3 Third Party Resources. Most of that section would be about BibleSupport.com. p (talk) 09:27, 21 August 2014 (UTC)

Rick Meyers = Krystal Meyer's dad

I think it's notable since Krystal Meyers is a pop star 129.180.139.48 (talk) 08:21, 8 September 2014 (UTC)

Since it is notable that Rick Meyers is Krystal Meyers' dad, and that this has been here since 11/8/14, it is then notable that Rick Meyers has his site mirrored under Krystal Meyers' domain, KrystalMeyers.com, as he calls that domian Krystal Meyers - Official Site in Bing, when that is not the title tag of his e-Sword home page (that is called e-Sword Home), or Krystal Meyers' home page, (called Welcome to KrystalMeyers.com). Therefore the title was inserted at search engine level, after Rick Meyers put his site under Krystal Meyers' domain, as he left Krystal 1/2 of her domain, www.krystalmeyers.com, and obviously has the other for himself, as he calls it her official site.
