A newly discovered privacy bug in Apple's FaceTime software allows users to hear and see the person they are calling, without the recipient even picking up the call.

The glitch impacts iPhones and iPads running iOS 12.1 and Apple PCs running macOS Mojave with the newly added Group FaceTime feature.

Apple confirmed it started disabling the Group FaceTime feature for all users, but the issue still impacts one-on-one FaceTime calls. Until the company rolls out a fix later this week, here's how to disable FaceTime on your Apple device for peace of mind:

1. Open Settings on your iPhone or iPad
2. Scroll down and select FaceTime

IT Networking Security Expert Christopher Hamer told News4Jax on Tuesday that this is nothing new. 'It's still software and software that manipulates hardware has the capacity to be compromised and used for purposes other than the program's intent,' he said.

Hamer said anyone with a smartphone should read the terms of service for every application. He said many people lose sight of what permissions applications are asking for.

'Because it's all a bunch of legalese, and buried in there is 'we have permission to turn on the camera whenever we want,' Hamer said.
